LEE CANYON ANNOUNCES THE INAUGURAL PLAY FOREVER PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED: SEPTEMBER 9 – OCTOBER 15, 2021

Today kicks off Lee Canyon’s inaugural Play Forever Photography Contest. The pillars of Lee Canyon’s sustainability program Play Forever are protecting the environment and inspiring people to participate in adventure. Now the resort wants to see people’s interpretations of the idea. Now through October 15, residents of Southern Nevada who love the Spring Mountains are encouraged to enter. Photo submissions should embody the pillars of Play Forever; entrants can submit in two categories, Environment and Community. There will be four finalists in each category. First-place winners take home $500 in cash, and their images and photographer bio will be displayed in Hillside Lodge. The juried competition is open to people of all ages and photography skill levels. Details and terms and conditions are available at www.leecanyonlv.com/play-forever-photo-contest.

Images must have been taken in Spring Mountain National Recreation Area during any of the four seasons. Captures can be recent or from any previous year. There is a $5 entry fee per image, and photographers can submit a maximum of 10 photos. Entry fees will be donated to Lee Canyon’s Play Forever Fund that supports local nonprofits through a partnership with the Nevada Community Foundation.

The Play Forever Photography Contest includes two categories, Environment and Community.

A jury of local photography experts will judge submissions on technical merit and storytelling and subject matter. Entrants can submit inspired images of landscapes and defining moments in nature, like people sharing experiences or pictures that reflect the power of solitude, local volunteers during a clean-up, the urgency of climate change, and the hope provided when nature renews itself. Along with the first-place prizewinners, second through fourth place finalists will also receive prizes.

“Nature has always inspired art. With this contest, we want to celebrate our community’s reverence for the outdoors and the Spring Mountains,” says Jim Seely, Lee Canyon’s director of marketing. “Often, the why behind conservation is wanting future generations to experience our landscape the way we have. We look forward to seeing our community’s interpretation of Play Forever.”

Four finalists in each category will be announced on November 1; their photographs will be displayed at Lee Canyon’s Pray For Snow event at Skye Canyon, Saturday, Nov. 20. Winners will be announced at Pray for Snow, where finalists’ pieces will be auctioned off to benefit the Play Forever Fund.
